To be eligible to apply with us, you need to have earned the full time National Living Wage amount in each of the last full six months. This was £1400+ until April 2024, and £1500+ from May 2024 onwards.

As we look at the last full 6 months, any salary received in the current month can not be counted.

If you are paid weekly, each weekly payment must have been £375+. If you are paid fortnightly, each payment must have been £750+.

You need to have been paid in the same way (ie. monthly or weekly) for the last six months.

Benefits, pension payments, and self employed income do not count towards these figures.

We're unable to process applications for those who do not meet these income requirements due to salary deducted benefits or wage stream.

You have received this message as we cannot currently see a qualifying salary in your Open Banking data.

We are passionate about lending responsibly. Our affordability assessment looks at a variety of factors in your Open Banking data, which inform us about your current financial circumstances, and whether we should lend to you.

Some of the factors we take into account are:

  • Direct Debit history - we need to see a strong, successful Direct Debit history in order to lend
  • Your lending history - we look at things like your current monthly commitments, and your recent lending habits
  • Visibility of spending - if a large portion of your income is withdrawn in cash or sent to a bank account we do not have visibility of, we are unable to make a sound lending decision
  • Gambling spend - we are unable to lend if your gambling spend surpasses our thresholds

The thing that makes Salad Money different to other loan companies is that we use Open Banking to assess applications rather than checking people's credit scores, which can often prevent them from getting a loan even when they could afford to.

Unfortunately, this does mean that we can only consider applications from customers with banks that use Open Banking and work with our Open Banking provider, which is currently only the case for the banks on our list.

We cannot accept bank statements or payslips to prove income, as we cannot run our automated affordability assessment rules on those.

If you do not have access to your previous account, and we can not locate 6 months of qualifying salary in your online banking data, we will not be able to proceed with your application today.

Here are a few things you can try that may resolve the problem if it persists;

  • Update your mobile banking app so it's definitely the most recent version
  • Clear your cache/cookies before trying again
  • Start again in a fresh incognito/private browser (Chrome is the best browser to use)
  • Try on a different device

If none of these work then we would recommend you contact your bank directly to see if they are able to identify any issues with their online banking.

In order for our technical team to investigate these errors it is important for them to be able to see what you can see - so if you've tried all of the above and the same thing happens please send us a screenshot of the screen you see, even if it is just blank or showing a spinning wheel so we can look into this further.

If you did not complete your application or your application was unsuccessful, all of your personal information will automatically be removed from our system within 28 days. This process can not be expedited.

If you would like to remove your Open Banking consent before this, you can go to the Consent/Permissions section of your online banking account (this is different for each bank but should be visible once you've logged in - or you can Google how to find this).

If you have borrowed with us previously, we're unable to remove your personal data from our system due to financial regulations, as we have had a credit agreement with you. You can ensure we don't have access to your Open Banking data by visiting the Permissions/Consents section of your online banking account.
